Brexit

Great Britain left the European Union on 31 January 2020. The transition period, during which free circulation of persons continued, ended on 31 December 2020.

The withdrawal agreement provides for the right of residence of UK citizens and their family members residing in Belgium before the end of the transition period. It equally provides for the rights of entry and exit of British frontier workers, who are working in Belgium before 31 January 2020.

In order for them to continue enjoying these rights, all British citizens and their family members must apply in their municipality of residence for one of the new statutes granted to beneficiaries of the withdrawal agreement.

To allow enough time for you to apply, Belgium has decided to prolong the application period.

You may submit your application from 1 January 2021 until 31 December 2021.

During the application period, which ends on December 31 2021, you may also use your old residence document (Annex 8, 8bis or card E / E+ / F / F+) at the borders to demonstrate that you are protected under the withdrawal agreement.

Please consult the website IBZ Immigration Office for more information.
